Constraints on nested bars – implications for gas inflow

چکیده
A wide-spread belief that nested bars enhance gas inflow to the galactic centre has recently been contradicted by dynamical models in which inner bars seem to prohibit such inflow. Can the existing models of dynamically possible double bars be modified to enable strong inflow in the secondary bar? I present here simple dynamical arguments which imply that in general, double bars in resonant coupling do not enhance gas inflow. However, stronger inflow with straight shocks in the inner bar can occur if there is no resonant coupling of the commonly assumed form between the bars.

Dynamical Decoupling of Nested Bars: Self-gravitating Gaseous Nuclear Bars
A substantial fraction of barred galaxies host additional nuclear bars which tumble with pattern speeds exceeding those of the large-scale (primary) stellar bars. We have investigated the mechanism of formation and dynamical decoupling in such nested bars which include gaseous (secondary) nuclear bars within the full size galactic disks, hosting a double inner Lindblad resonance. Becoming incre...

We review our recent work on the formation and evolution of disks within triaxial dark matter (DM) halos by means of numerical simulations, including star formation and feedback from stellar evolution. The growing disks are strongly influenced by shapes of DM halos and modify them in turn. Disk parameters are in a broad agreement with those in the local universe. Gas-rich stellar bars grow in t...
متن کاملNested Bars and Associated Morphology of Central Kpc in Disk Galaxies
We discuss different aspects of nested bar systems, both observational and theoretical. Such systems consist of a large-scale primary bar leading to the formation of a sub-kpc size secondary bar, whose pattern speed differs substantially from that of the main bar. Specifically, we focus on the origin and gravitational decoupling of nested bars, and their characteristic gas flows on scales of ∼ ...
متن کاملDynamics of the Central kpc in Barred Galaxies : Theory and Modeling
The central kpc of barred galaxies exhibits a wealth of morphological information on different components with clear dynamical consequences. These include nuclear rings, spirals, bars, and more. We argue that this morphology is driven by large-scale stellar bars and analyze its consequences for gas dynamics and the distribution of star-forming regions. Specifically, we focus on gas flows in nes...
متن کاملGas Dynamics in Central Parts of Galaxies
Asymmetries in galactic potentials, either self-induced, or caused by a passing companion, play an important role in global gas dynamics in galaxies. In particular, they are able to trigger gas inflow, which in turn feeds nuclear activity. In the inner kiloparsec, the inflowing gas becomes subject to various resonances induced by asymmetry in the potential. This produces complicated gas morphol...
